Why is it, that after a period of not sleeping well, I feel tired after sleeping well?

For about the past three days, I got, on average, five or less hours of sleep. However, once I got a full night's sleep, I was noticeably groggy when I woke up. This isn't the first time this has happened, and I was wondering if anyone knew why this happens?
