How do I find out about tge basketball teams? Miami heat I dnt get it?

Ok I feel kinda stupid cuz everybody talks about Miami heat...mavs....but are these ppl NBA? Wat is NBA? And wat are all the basket ball team's name? Do they all verse each other? Is there play offs? I dnt get it I'm sorry
