How long for a cats mouth to heal after dental surgery?

My cat had to have several teeth removed yesterday. He still seems groggy today, is that normal. He has always ate dry food but seems to be ok with the moist food. Will he be able to go back to dry? Anything special I have to watch for during the first week?
