Cold Sore Question about Rubbing Alcohol!?

I've got a developing cold sore, and i've heard that icing down the cold sore, and then applying rubbing alcohol helps take it away almost over night- but the rubbing alcohol i have is poisonous, therefor i'm kind of scared to put it anywhere near my mouth, etc. Is it really a safe thing to do?
